what can they do to star trek to make the next movie somewhat competitive to this one. I really like the music on this movie plus the seriousness in the characters. Theres always going to be humor but the atmosphere this movie brought was so serious.

That was my guess. Or maybe it's a weaker version of the navigational deflector field that's designed more for space debris and other natural hazards than for full-on space combat.
